This guide provides detailed steps on how to set up your Xero account effectively before your training call. It covers the essential actions required, including connecting your bank accounts and importing transactions.

This guide applies to new users setting up their Xero accounts for business purposes. It focuses on connecting business bank accounts and excludes personal account connections.

Use Case

This guide applies to small business owners or accountants who need to set up their accounting software efficiently and prepare for upcoming training sessions.

Workflow

Step 1: Sign In

Start by locating the email invite you received for Xero. Click on the link to sign in.

Step 2: Connect Your Bank Account

On the main dashboard, look for the option to connect your bank accounts. You can either click "Add an account" directly or navigate through the top ribbon by selecting "Accounting" and then "Bank Accounts".

You will need to connect all bank accounts that are exclusively for your business.

Step 3: Authorize Connection

After selecting your bank, log in using your bank credentials. Xero will not collect your credentials; you will provide them directly to your bank's login page.

Once logged in, select the accounts you wish to connect and hit "Authorize".

Step 4: Import Transactions

You will be prompted to specify the date range for importing transactions. Make sure to choose the first day of the month of your boxed date.

If your boxed date is January 1st, select that date. If the bank does not allow going back that far, select the furthest back you can, ideally not more than 30 days.

Once done, click "Finish".

Step 5: Upload Bank Statements

After successfully adding your accounts, you can download your PDF bank statements from your bank. Upload these statements to your Xero dashboard.
